Kyushu University, abbreviated as Kyudai (九大), is a Japanese national university located in Fukuoka, on the island of Kyushu. It’s considered one of Japan’s most prestigious and historically significant universities, often ranked among the “Seven Imperial Universities” established by the Empire of Japan.

History and Campuses

Kyudai’s origins trace back to the Fukuoka Medical College, a branch of Kyoto Imperial University, which was founded in 1903. It became an independent Imperial University in 1911. Today, the university has four main campuses in Fukuoka: Hakozaki, Ito, Maidashi, and Ohashi. The Ito Campus, a vast modern campus, is the primary location for most of the university’s academic activities.
